Remembering Fred Danley: Legendary Horse Trainer and Finish LineⓇ Endorser

Date

Fred Danley was a highly respected American racehorse trainer whose career stretched over six decades and made him one of the standout figures in both Quarter Horse and Thoroughbred racing.

Born into the sport, he began working with horses as a teenager and earned his trainer’s license in 1961; by age 19 he had already won the Kansas Futurity (now Ruidoso Futurity), signaling the start of a remarkable tenure in the winner’s circle. Over the years, Danley conditioned thousands of winners and amassed more than $40 million in purse earnings, with standout performers like Gotta Get, Rusty’s Miracle, and Namehimastreaker among his many successful trainees, and he was recognized as one of the top all-time Quarter Horse money-earning trainers.

Danley’s influence extended beyond statistics; he was a fixture at venues such as Ruidoso Downs, where his skill in developing young horses and his deep understanding of their potential earned him admiration from peers and jockeys alike. Known for his patience, eye for talent, and lifelong passion for the sport, he continued training and competing at high levels into his later years, even breeding and conditioning successful horses right up to the end of his life. His longevity, consistency, and dedication left a lasting legacy in American horse racing.

Danley recently passed away at his home in New Mexico, leaving behind a profound legacy in American racing. He was a strong supporter of Finish Line Horse Products and believed in the value of products such as Iron PowerⓇ and Performance Builder™ as part of his training program. Danley stated, “I started using Finish Line products in preparation for the summer meet at Ruidoso Downs. I started using Iron Power to help my horses recover faster. Once I saw how well this product worked, I started using more products from Finish Line, including Performance Builder. You can really see the difference in muscle tone and definition after using Performance Builder.

Finish Line Horse Products extends its heartfelt condolences to the Danley family and will continue to support the Danley team as they carry on his enduring legacy in horse racing.

Racing can greatly impact a horse's bones and joints.
