Finish Line Horse Products wants this website to work for as many people as possible, including people who use a screen reader, navigate by keyboard, or magnify the screen.
The standard we work to
We aim to meet WCAG 2.1 Level AA. That is the benchmark referenced in Americans with Disabilities Act guidance and used widely for commercial websites.
Where the site stands today
finishlinehorse.com is partially conformant with WCAG 2.1 Level AA. Partially conformant means most of the site meets the standard and we know of specific places that do not yet. The list further down is kept current rather than written once.
We completed a full review of the site in August 2026 and made the changes described below. We check the site again whenever we make significant changes.
What we have fixed
- Added descriptive text to images across the site, so a screen reader can describe them instead of reading out a file name.
- Gave every page a single, meaningful main heading. Around 450 blog posts previously had none at all.
- Put the headings on every page into a logical order, so people who navigate by heading are not skipped past sections.
- Made the Skip to content link work on every page, so keyboard users can get past the menus without tabbing through them.
- Gave links, buttons and embedded videos names that are read out clearly.
- Rebuilt information that was only available as a picture into real text, including the feeding chart on Apple-A-Day and Orange-A-Day, the ingredient panels on the poultices and Fura-Free, and the application instructions on the poultice products. Text can be read aloud, searched, translated and enlarged without going blurry.
- Darkened several text colours that did not have enough contrast against their background, including the phone number in the header, the dates on blog posts, and the links in the cart and at checkout.
- Underlined links that sit inside paragraphs, so they are not identified by colour alone.
- Made the show and hide password buttons large enough to be an easy target.
- Added a heading to the search results page, which previously had none.
- Labelled contact form fields so browsers and assistive technology can fill them in automatically.
What we know is still not right
- Product label images. Each product gallery includes a photograph of the product label. Ingredient lists and directions on those labels are part of the picture, so they cannot be read aloud by a screen reader or enlarged without losing quality. Where the same information appears as text elsewhere on the page it is available; where it does not, it is not. We are working on giving every product a text version of its label information.
- The discount code box at checkout. On screen this field is identified only by the faint grey prompt inside it, which disappears as soon as you start typing. Screen reader users do hear it announced, but a permanent visible label is what the standard asks for and it is not there yet.
- The card payment box at checkout. This is supplied by Stripe and rebuilt by their software every time the page loads, so we cannot correct it ourselves. One of its hidden fields is marked in a way that can confuse a screen reader. We have the option of telephone ordering if this stops you completing a purchase.
- Testing with screen readers is not yet complete. See the How we test section below.
Parts of the site provided by other companies
Some parts of this site are supplied by other companies and are not fully within our control:
- the store locator map
- videos embedded from YouTube and Facebook
- the payment step at checkout
We raise accessibility problems with these suppliers, and where a supplier cannot meet the standard we look for a replacement or provide the same information another way. If one of these stops you completing something, please contact us and we will help you directly.
How we test
We test every page of the site with automated accessibility tools running in a real browser, and we carry out manual checks of keyboard navigation, heading order, colour contrast and form labelling.
We have not yet completed a full review with screen reader software such as NVDA or VoiceOver. That work is planned. Automated tools cannot find every problem, which is why we also rely on people telling us what does not work.
